Description
Newspaper advertisement for Sonny Blount's "New Style Rhythm Band" at the Grand Terrace, 1943. Featured performers include singer Fletcher "Hootie" Myatt (misidentified here as Fletcher Myles); the "Famous Female Impersonator" Chick; and the shake-dancing Madame Twannie. Similar advertisements, accompanied by photos of a "typical" Grand Terrace scene, appeared frequently in the Weekly Review in this period. Blount -- the future Sun Ra -- would be the Grand Terrace's central weekend attraction from the fall of 1943 through spring, 1944. Weekly Review, October 30, 1943.
