Wanda Lohman

Title

Wanda Lohman

Description

Wanda Lohman (“Miss Wanda”) was the longtime waitress at Tootsie’s Orchard Lounge, the iconic Nashville honkytonk.

This interview was conducted as part of the project “Talking Country: Oral Histories in Classic Country Music,” created by Burgin Mathews in 2003 with grant support from the Southern Research Circle at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The interview was conducted midday at Tootsie’s, at Wanda’s usual table by the window. A band can be heard setting up and playing throughout the interview. While the background sounds interfere with the clarity of the interview, they offer their own glimpse into the scene at Tootsie's, even in "off" hours.

A print transcript is also provided below.

Also included, after the interview: Wanda's performance of "Pistol Packin' Daddy," from a 2003 compact disc recorded live at Tootsie's.
