Paul Bascomb postcard, stamped 1965. Caption on back of card: “PAUL BASCOMB … Born in Birmingham, Ala. Attended Alabama State College and originated the ‘Bama State Collegians’ Band and the famous Erskine Hawkins Band. His brother, Dud Bascomb, is a trumpeter (Paul and Dud are a top brother wind-valve instrument team [trumpet-saxophone]). His arrangements of ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’ and ‘Jan 1 and 2’ are world standard classics. He was a guiding light for Sam Lowe in the writing and arranging of the world renowned ‘Tuxedo Junction’ and Jimmy Mitchell and the world famous ‘Don’t Cry Baby’. He brought to the attention of the public such musicians as Captain Sims, WIlliam ‘Skinny’ Bolden, Avery Parrish, Richard Sanford, Haywood Henry and a host of others.”
