The Alabama Ramblers: Gray-Haired Mother of Mine / Make Room in Your Heart for a Friend

Description

The Alabama Ramblers: "Gray-Haired Mother of Mine" and "Make Room in Your Heart for a Friend"

“Back in my home in Alabama, where a gray-haired mother waits for me / Each night in my dreams I can see her, and it’s there that I’m longing to be...”

“I’d like to send that song to all the mothers of the boys in Company B and Company C, of all the boys in Korea at this time.”

Recorded in Korea, circa 1952, by the Alabama Ramblers and subsequently broadcast over radio station WJMW in Athens, Alabama. Originally recorded on reel-to-reel tape, this excerpt was later re-recorded to an acetate disc, now housed at the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives in Athens. This and other recordings by the Alabama Ramblers are presented here with thanks to Dale Casteel, Stephanie Hunter-Cook, and the Alabama Veterans Museum and Archives.
