The Alabama Ramblers: Newspaper Photo & Caption
Description
Newspaper photo and caption, Decatur [AL] Daily, October 2, 1951.
Caption text reads: "RAMBLERS PERFORM--Anytime the 1343d engineer combat battalion of the Alabama National Guard runs a little short on entertainment, the call goes out for a command performance by 'The Alabama Ramblers',, probably the biggest variety show of its kind of the X Corps battlefront. And with two exceptions, the 'Ramblers' live up to their title. Only two of the performers aren't 'Bamans. In the cast, kneeling left to right, are: Pfc. Stanley White, Hartselle; M/Sgt. Jerry McGivney, Athens; Pfc. George Naope, Hilio, Hawaii; Sergeant First Class J. W. Hudson, Athens and Sgt. Richard G. McElyea, Athens. Left to right, standing: M/Sgt. Dee Proctor, Hartselle; M/Sgt. Howard Proctor, Hartselle; Sgt. Robert M. Allen, Sgt. Charles Adams and Cpl. Fred B. Clem, all of Athens; Pfc. James Price, Owensville, Mo.; Sgt. Robert Grigsby and Cpl. Dale Casteel, both of Athens. (U. S. Army Photo by Cpl. James H. Bilbrey.)" Note that Howard Proctor, second from left, standing, holds a broom painted with a face.
